Illuminate Adelaide - Repast
Repast is a multisensory, interactive installation about memory and the fragility of the natural world.
A cinematic film shot in South Australia sits alongside a mirrored digital environment. Built from 3D scanning and drone photogrammetry, the digital world continuously morphs the landscape’s data points, highlighting how fragile and subjective our recollection of the past is. Motion sensors let the audience interact directly with the artwork, altering and reassembling the landscape as they move.
A bespoke scent of the Australian landscape fills the space. Field recordings captured in surround sound are blended with a multichannel electronic and acoustic score recorded by Australian classical musicians.
Repast was developed partly through a residency at the UKARIA Cultural Centre, with support from Light ADL. It was shown at Illuminate Adelaide and at Spier Light Art in Cape Town, and more than 20,000 people have interacted with it.
